Domain quality check for teams publishing AI-assisted drafts
A model can write a citation in a second, but it cannot tell you whether the site behind it is worth linking. We keep a link index of 181 million domains so your editors can.
- Free DR lookup, no key and no card
- Bulk DR for up to 2,000 domains in one call
- Built around editors who review AI drafts

Who it is for
A domain quality check belongs between the draft and the publish button
Generative tools write fast. They also cite with confidence, whether or not the source exists, and neither habit tells you if a cited site is a real publisher or a thin page that appeared last spring. A domain quality check gives the reviewer a number before the sentence goes live.
Our number is Domain Rating. It is a 0 to 100 score built from the count of referring domains on a log scale, and it is our own metric, comparable in spirit to Ahrefs DR but not the same figure. Sort with it. Never judge with it.
Google has said since February 2023 that AI use is not against its rules by itself, while mass production of pages made mainly to rank is spam. Your review step is the evidence. Our Google guidance notes walk through the wording. Short read.
How it works
How a draft gets checked, in four moves
Pull the domains out of the draft
Every cited source and every outbound link becomes a bare domain in a list. A regex does it in a minute, and a person can do it in five.
Send the list in one call
The bulk_dr action takes up to 2,000 domains and costs 1 credit, which is $0.0001. See the bulk workflow example.
Sort out the odd ones
Anything at DR 0 or with almost no referring domains goes to a human. Some are new and fine. Some are invented by the model.
Record what you decided
Keep the list, the date and the reviewer's note next to the draft. That file is your answer if someone asks how you edit.
Compare
What each lookup costs when you run a newsroom-sized queue
| Action | Credits | Cost per call | Typical use in a review |
|---|---|---|---|
| domain, overview, stats | 0 | $0 | Spot check one source while reading |
| bulk_dr (up to 2,000 domains) | 1 | $0.0001 | Score every domain in a draft at once |
| compare (up to 20) | 1 | $0.0001 | Put three candidate sources side by side |
| refdomains | 2 | $0.0002 | See who links to a source you doubt |
| anchors | 2 | $0.0002 | Check whether a source is anchor-stuffed |
One request for a whole reference list
This is the call behind step two. Replace the key with your own after you sign in with Google.
curl "https://genaicontent.org/api.php?action=bulk_dr&domains=example.com,example.org,example.net&key=sk_live_..."What it is for
Where reviewers use the numbers
None of these replace reading the source. They tell you where to read first.
Citations the model supplied
Models invent plausible references. A domain with no referring domains at all is a cue to open the URL and look.
Outbound links you add
Linking out is part of editing. Check the destination before it carries your name.
Guest and partner pieces
When freelancers send AI-assisted copy with links, the same list-and-score routine applies.
Monthly spot audits
Sample twenty published pages, re-score their outbound domains, and see which went stale.

FAQ
Questions editors ask us
What is a domain quality check for AI content?
It is a quick look at the sites your draft cites or links to, using a score and a referring-domain count. It flags sources that look empty or invented. It does not decide quality by itself, and a person must still read the page before approval.
Does Google penalise pages written with ChatGPT or Claude?
Google's February 2023 guidance says using AI is not against its rules by itself. Its spam policies, in force since March 2024, target scaled content made mainly to manipulate rankings. Tool choice is not the test, usefulness and review are.
Can I trust the links an AI assistant gives me?
No, not without a check. Assistants sometimes produce addresses that look right and lead nowhere. Open each one, then score the domain. A source with zero referring domains deserves extra suspicion before it goes into published copy.
Is the DR check really free?
Single lookups through the box above and the domain, overview, stats and suggest actions need no key and cost nothing. Bulk and deeper actions use prepaid credit, and new accounts start with $100 of it.
How current is the data?
The index refreshes about once a month. A link added last week may not show yet, so treat the score as a monthly reading and not a live feed.
Is this the same number as Ahrefs DR?
No. The formula is public, round(100 log(ref_domains+1) / log(210^7)), and it is our own metric. Ahrefs or Semrush are fuller products for keywords and daily crawl; this is link data at a low per-call price.
